Stanwell Beer FOB Detector / Cellar Buoy
This Stanwell FOB Detector, also known as a cellar buoy, is designed for use in commercial draught beer dispense systems to help prevent beer lines from emptying when a keg runs out.
Installed in the cellar between the keg and the beer line, the FOB automatically shuts off the beer supply when the keg empties. This helps keep the beer line full, reducing beer waste during keg changes and allowing the dispense system to return to normal service more quickly.
Manufactured by Stanwell, this FOB detector is suitable for pubs, bars, clubs and other commercial draught beer installations.
Available individually or as a trade pack of 10, providing a lower price per unit for dispense engineers, installation companies and customers requiring multiple FOB detectors.
Pack Options
- Single – 1 x Stanwell FOB Detector
- Trade Pack of 10 – 10 x Stanwell FOB Detectors
The trade pack is ideal for multiple installations, larger projects or dispense companies keeping FOB detectors in stock for future work.
How Does a Beer FOB Detector Work?
During normal dispense, beer passes through the FOB detector and continues through the beer line towards the tap.
When the keg empties, the float inside the FOB drops and shuts off the flow. This helps prevent gas from entering and emptying the beer line.
Once a new keg has been connected, the FOB can be reset and the beer supply restored without having to refill an unnecessarily emptied beer line.

Why Use a FOB Detector?
Without a FOB detector, when a keg empties, gas can enter the beer line and push the remaining beer towards the tap.
A correctly installed FOB helps keep the beer line full during a keg change, which can help:
- Reduce beer waste
- Reduce excessive fobbing following a keg change
- Get the dispense line back into service more quickly
- Maintain a more consistent draught beer dispense system
This is particularly useful in commercial installations with longer beer lines, where allowing the line to empty can result in considerably more product being lost.
Beer Line Cleaning
A FOB detector forms part of the beer dispense line and therefore needs to be incorporated correctly into the normal beer line cleaning process.
Ensure the FOB is operated correctly during cleaning so that cleaning solution can pass through the FOB and associated beer line, and return it to the correct dispense position afterwards.
Single or Trade Pack of 10

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a FOB detector?
A FOB detector, commonly referred to as a cellar buoy, is used in draught beer dispense systems to shut off the beer supply when a keg empties, helping prevent the beer line from draining.
Who manufactures this FOB detector?
This model is manufactured by Stanwell.
Can I buy Stanwell FOB detectors in bulk?
Yes. Choose either a single FOB detector or a trade pack of 10. The trade pack provides a lower price per unit and is particularly suitable for dispense engineers and installation companies.
Where is a FOB detector installed?
FOB detectors are normally installed in the cellar as part of the draught beer dispense system between the keg and beer line.
Is a FOB detector suitable for a home bar?
FOB detectors are primarily used in commercial draught beer installations. They can be incorporated into other dispense systems where required, but are generally more beneficial where longer beer lines mean more product could otherwise be lost when a keg empties.
Does it come with additional fittings?
The Stanwell FOB Detector is supplied as pictured. Any additional fittings required for your particular installation should be purchased separately.
I'm unsure whether this is suitable for my system – can you help?
Yes. Contact us with details or photographs of your existing dispense setup and we'll help identify what you require before ordering.
